Open Eyes, Broken Heart

“Do not close your eyes before suffering. Find ways to be with those who are suffering by all means, including personal contacts and visits, images and sounds. By such means, awaken yourself and others to the reality of suffering in the world.”
-The Buddha

My heart was broken today. This picture of Buddhist monks, men of an ancient order of peace and liberation, shackled by communist soldiers, men of an ideologically bankrupt system of violence and oppression, is almost too much to bear.

Please don’t turn a blind eye to the fact that the Chinese government, the leaders of the rising world superpower, is a brutal and oppressive regime. I know it’s hard in this day and age of financial and material interdependence, but if you can find a way to boycott Chinese goods, please do. Human rights are more important than cheap possessions. Most importantly, please never cease to stand up for freedom of speech, freedom of protest, freedom of thought, freedom of religion, and PEACE.
